Date Bars

  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups oatmeal
  • 1 cup butter, melted
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts

Combine above ingredients, and spread 3/4 of mixture in pan.

  • 1 pound pitted dates, chopped
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Cook above ingredients in saucepan until thick, stirring frequently. Spread filling over dry ingredients in pan. Top with remaining oatmeal mixture. Bake at 325 degrees for 35 minutes.
